A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of activities far superior than scanning the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out over the festive period, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
