Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
