Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
